After a flea treatment, how long does it take for flea bite dermatitis to heal?
My westie/poodle has flea bite dermatitis. It’s all red and bumpy around her rear end. I treated her with K9 advantix a couple days ago, approx how long will it take to heal?
Thank you so much! :)
Oh and I also gave her a soothing oatmeal shampoo/conditioner bath.

Not sure exactly how long it would take after the last bite, but the way these treatments work is that the fleas have to bite the dog or be on the dog to work. There are probably already flea eggs in your home, so you have to wait til you not only kill the fleas already in your house, but the next batch that is going to hatch (and the batch after that which has already been laid). So you are likely looking at a 2-3 of months until you actually get rid of all the potential fleas that are can bite your dog.
You could figure this out by finding out about the flea life cycle. I don’t know how long the eggs take to hatch. You could also treat your house.
It’s good that you treated her with Advantix, as it repells the fleas as other products don’t. You should continue to keep her on a monthly treatment schedule year round to keep her from suffering again.
It may take a few days/weeks to heal, depending on her health, age and the severity of the injury. She may have a skin infection that requires antibiotics due to the chewing and licking at the area. An e-collar can prevent her from further injuring the area.
